Hi ,
It looks like you're using an ad blocker.

The revenue generated from the adverts on the site is a critical part of our funding - and it's because of these ads that I can offer the site for free. But using the site for free AND blocking the ads doesn't feel like a great thing to do, which is why this box is so large and inconvenient. Some sites will completely block your access, but I'm not doing that - I'm appealing to your good nature instead. Did you know that you can allow ads for specific sites, whilst still blocking them on others?

Thanks,

Why can’t I read the road names? Do I need new reading glasses 🤔

Interesting that, unlike previous years, this year’s route doesn’t pass into the “City Centre” at all (ie inside the Inner Ring Road).

Also Altrincham comes a fair whack earlier in the race, so that "hill" is at a more pleasant part of the route. I'm guessing the Oxford road finish was forced by them being kicked out of the city centre section.

Any idea how this will run, I had planned to push on after Altrincham, but now it's earlier.

Altrincham used to be about halfway back in the day when I was a lad.....

.....but now it's anticlockwise! Oh dear I'm not sure my brain could cope with that.

Isn't it the same direction as it has been in the last few years? Route is slightly different as it doesn't go past the station any more, but it was anti-CW when I ran it in 2022 wasn't it?

Larks, jda meant that "back in the day" the loop used to be clockwise and Altrincham was at halfway. That changed post-covid when the race became the Manchester Marathon, rather than Greater Manchester Marathon, with the introduction of the out and back into the city centre, and hence Altrincham was pushed later into the route (as Carrington/Urmston was dropped) and the direction was changed to clockwise.

So, yes this year's route is broadly similar to that of the last few years, although it looks like they've added a few more loops (e.g. 2-5miles) to make up the distance of removing the City Centre which may break up.

Aha, was confused as I know jda has run the "modern" route already a couple of times.

The new course has a nice loop back around the start which would be good for spectating; see them set off, see them again after 2-4 miles depending on where you go.

Looks like gradually drags uphill over the last few miles but that's still only climbing 25m or so over a 5-6 mile stretch so still very flat.

Putting miles 24-25 through Moss Side might encourage a bit of pace at a challenging part of the race ;-) (Or is that unfair on Moss Side these days?)
