A few LDWA events here too. The great thing about them is that you can generally go at whatever pace you like within limits so we've done a jog/walk strategy

. . . and you get free food / refreshments both during the events and afterwards (plus quite possibly before)

Oh, we like LDW events too, we plump for the challenges as you are allowed to run.

I really enjoy walking, which helps with having dogs. I walked the Lakeland 50 2 years ago and the training I did and the way I ‘performed’ for want of a better word, on the day of the race was up there with how I felt about the training and race day for my best marathon and doing the BG. I can quite happily slip into walking for training mode from running for training.

What about Long Distance Paths? Me and Liebling did both the Yorkshire Wolds Way and the Dales High Way last year.
Yesterday I got the guide book for Offa's Dyke which is almost as good as doing it right?

Buying the maps / guidebook is the route half-finished in my view

Exactly! When I saw it goes through Hay on Wye, I thought 'Great, I can buy a lot of books!' which is maybe not the best idea when carrying a backpack.
