I agree the course is far from the best the Lakes has to offer, but I wouldn't call it uninspiring - maybe it's because I don't often visit, but I think it's pretty grand, a few tedious road sections aside. I'd love them to reverse the course for some variety, but can't see it happening :)

I've done a couple of L100s but I'm going to try 50 this year, if I can get in.

NE - a very long memory :)

On a different note, in previous attempts I'd read blogs but most of those blogs were from people at the sharp end. What 'works' for them (in my opinion) is unlikely to help somebody at the back of the race like me.

Some takeaways from this years UTLD50 that I will work on for the 100:

1. Pacing - absolutely crucial. For me there is absolutely nothing to gain and everything to lose by 'banking' time. The cutoff are there for a reason. Getting to Dalemain with hours to spare won't help me as to do that I would be utterly spent and unable to continue.

2. Nutrition - sweet stuff is alright upto about eight hours but beyond that real savoury food is required. At Chapel Stile the meat stew and bread really hit the spot. I plan to take chopped up sausage rolls and mini porkpies.

3. Stabiliser versus mobilisers. Living in the Fens I've developed my mobiliser muscles at the expense of stabiliser muscles. When you ask muscles to do a job they weren't designed to do they complain. I will spend from 1st January developing my stabiliser muscles.

Myself and Phal are going to try and enter.

I DNF last year and have a few bad memories from the year before I need to get rid of. Hopefully I won't get sickness and squirts the week before this time!

Boil them. Let them cool and dry fully. In a food bag, stick salt in.

I think I will be trying for an entry for next year. The only thing that disappoints me about this one is that its not a UTMB points scorer. But I think I understand the reasons why it's not.
