I have just emailed you the screen shots Mr Fetch, I had your email address from when I won that fab Garmin at Christmas. :-)

I just got the Fetch ad too in the square box. It looked brilliant and I would be quite happy for that ad to stay there. Don't ask me to take a screenshot of it though - it would take me far too long to work out how to do that or what to do with the screenshot once I had done so ... and anyway I should really be doing some work right now ;-)

There are ads on the Internet? (Obligatory smug Firefox + Adblock post)

And yes, I realise that if everyone blocked the adverts there wouldn't be a website, but the presence of adverts that flash or play loud noises destroys any possible sense of guilt that I'm not doing my fair share of being annoyed by them. Sorry.

I don't mind the banner adverts as they are essentially replacing an advert about Fetch (Fetchpoint, the BUPA challenge) with adverts about other sites.

It's worth mentioning that if you put your cursor over the blue triangle in the top right of the advert it takes you to a page supplied by the advertising agency which enables you to disable adverts from that advertiser. That doesn't solve the problem of getting adverts (as it just narrows the ones you might see) but it does allow you to get rid of companies who have annoying adverts.

Its the unnecessary noisy ones and the irrelevance of them... why do I want to play some shit game online?

Meanwhile I have ordered a Russian Bride and will be offering a review of her later. #everydaysexism

Thanks Lemon, thanks everyone. Hopefully the Big People In London can do a bit of fine tuning, although I think they'll all be busy at the VLM expo for the remainder of this week.

Put me on the list of people who'd rather pay a subscription than endure this shit. It's spoiling my favourite website.

About This Thread

Maintained by Son of a Pronator Man
Fetch says: "I don't choose the ads, I just supply the holes, and the people who pay my salary and supply a server choose what they want to put in them. The change was a surprise to me too, and I've asked for some clarification on the thinking.

If you get any particularly dodgy ones, e.g. Russian mail order brides, or ones that break the user experience, it would be helpful for me to see some screenshots (ian AT fetcheveryone.com), and I'll feed those back."

And: "I've just clicked the little blue triangle in the top right corner of the ad, and looked at the opt-out options. On the page it took me to (after it took a while to think about it), there was a button called something like 'Choose All Companies' - I clicked that, and thus far, it seems to have opted me out of all the ads."
