Ironman UK

AlanO Sep 2012 5:44am, 20 Sep 2012 319 posts	0 AlanO Just completed my first season of triathlon finishing with the Highland Warrior Half. Thinking of entering Ironman UK in 2013. Whats people's thoughts? Is it a good event or is there better Ironman distance events out there in the UK ?
EvilPixie Sep 2012 6:49am, 20 Sep 2012 10,554 posts	0 EvilPixie should have done outlaw as that's the best IM distance tri in the UK according to the last 2 yrs of voting in 220 but entries closed after 6 days - quicker than IMUK which in itself is an indicator but you could try the waiting list Ive volunteered for outlaw twice now and the crew is brilliant

Absolutely stunning, challenging at every stage, superb for spectators and the best, most enthusiastic support for an event I have ever known. There's some great footage in youtube, and I've blogged my experience which should give a feel. I especially love the way the town (Tenby) goes completely Ironman crazy in race week, banners and flags everywhere and everyone is talking about it. It makes you feel very special. You only get one first Ironman, so choose carefully. It'll be unforgettable whatever. But Wales was the best race experience I have had, beating even IM Frankfurt.

Outlaw is fast (but July), Henley is quicker than Wales but the bike is still lumpy and its a Thames swim. The old Thames tummy can be an issue, but run is flat. Europen IM's really end with Wales, so you;d have to go further afield in Sept, even then not many about as too near Kona.
