Ha - I was watching the 2001 parody/satire last night - John Carpenter's "Dark Star". Crikey, what an oddball, prescient pinata of weirdness. That's a great, if odd film. |

Just booked all four of the next set of Everyman Throwbacks. Some Like It Hot plus LOTR over three successive Sundays.

I haven’t seen 2001 either. Am not ashamed of it. Just never got round to it. In my seat awaiting Mission Impossible 😊 |

I've made all of my boys watch 2001 and every single one (encouraged by my better half) has told me it was "Rubbish" at the end. But the plus side is I've got to watch it many times and *I* enjoy it! Still not entirely sure what I'm watching though! More prosaically, watched Rye Lane last night. Lovely, simple, natural. Hints of Wes Anderson in terms of framing (but also, very not Wes Anderson). |

Mission Uninsurable: Dead Ringers. There was a long, confusing and actually quite boring exposition section at the start of this which I thought got quite tedious and silly and it wasn't a good start. I yawned a couple of times. However it picked up and rattled along well eventually, despite being quite confusing at times. Quite a bit of humour in it as well and Hayley Atwell is totes adoreballs. Better than Indiana Jones: Zimmer of Fate, and I quite enjoyed it. Consumed: dish of cheesy fries, one chocolate brownie and an Americano. |

Hayley Atwell was fab. And Vanessa Kirby, playing Hayley Atwell, playing Vanessa Kirby, that was good too! Yes, the exposition was a bit heavy handed. But the premise (no spoilers, because really, it comes right at the start) that AI or automation really, gone mad, could really mess with computer systems isn't as far fetched as you might think. We're trying to do some security stuff right now to work out how to protect against some of these scenarios in financial services! ![]() |
