The 2017 thread opened with a game of "guess the race date", so given the date for 2018 will be announced at noon today, it seems appropriate to open next years race thread now and postulate when the 2018 race will be... April 1st - Easter April 8th - Paris (also sponsored by Asics) April 15th - Brighton April 22nd - VLM April 29th - ??? So will Human Race Events (who bought out Xtra Mile Events in April) decide to clash with Paris or Brighton, or go after VLM??? |

Just confirmed as Sunday 8th April (https://www.facebook.com/Gtrmanchestermarathon/photos/a.172404786217608.14819.169611259830294/785539478237466/?type=3&theater) so clashes with Paris.

Gus - whilst Human Race Events bought Xtra Mile Events I *believe* it's still the same team of people based near Altrincham that are organising both the triathlon and running events. Thus I'd assume XME is now probably a subsidiary of HRE, and thus maintains the same contact details etc as before. I doubt we will notice any significant difference between this years race and next (apart from the previous owner not being race director... if you knew what he looked like!). I know there's a few people registered for the previous discount price, immediately after this years race (jdarun, Spanners and myself at least). |

Ahhh, I see - I thought they had just bought the "race" from Xtra Miles, but sounds like they have actually bought Xtra Miles !!!

Right. I'm in. And I'm running 2:45. Well maybe.

Nelly - Thanks for setting up the forum. I'll be keeping tabs on it while I try to get in shape to improve from 2:55:35 this year to an ambitious sub 2:45, mostly by adding targeted strength and conditioning and being lighter so I can cruise most of it at 6:10/mile rather than 6:40. jda - I seem to recall that you were also looking into increased focus on strength & conditioning: how's it going? I over-did it and the back of my left leg remains sore despite several weeks of laying off the exercises. |

speedy, I decided to just do a short plyo session/warm-up two or three times a week before running, no real signs of change (and I wouldn't expect to see anything yet) though my hopping skills are certainly improving! I'm pretty much convinced by the science behind it though. Just pogos, hops and skips which I can do anywhere. Weight loss will be important for me too but that can wait |
