Does anyone know if it's normal for hotels not to be taking bookings for 9 months ahead ? Hmmm, do I wait and hope I get an Ibis room in October for £40-£50, or book the Trafford Hall Hotel now for £75

As an example, you mentioned the Ramada is full but you can get a room via http://m.superbreak.com/mt/www.superbreak.com/hotels/hotel/5040/18-04-2015/1-nights/1-rooms/2-adults,0-children?utm_source=trivago&utm_medium=pricecomparison&utm_campaign=trivago_5040 for £99. So there are rooms out there but difficult to find. I suspect if you wait a bit more rooms will be released directly by the hotel and cheaper deals... but that's easy for me to say knowing I'll be sleeping in my own bed the night before race day!

I get the impression that they want to squeeze as much money out of you as possible in the UK, hope you manage to find somewhere - after all you don't want to be too far away.
