Loads of hotels are saying no vacancies, not sure if actually booked out, or like Ibis they're not taking bookings yet. Does anyone know if it's normal for hotels not to be taking bookings for 9 months ahead ?

Hmmm, do I wait and hope I get an Ibis room in October for £40-£50, or book the Trafford Hall Hotel now for £75

sorry about that K5 - if it were me I'd book the Trafford Hall + the Ibis is a bit like a detention centre, a nice detention centre but one non the less.

Gus, I struggle to believe they're actually full this far in advance. As an example, you mentioned the Ramada is full but you can get a room via http://m.superbreak.com/mt/www.superbreak.com/hotels/hotel/5040/18-04-2015/1-nights/1-rooms/2-adults,0-children?utm_source=trivago&utm_medium=pricecomparison&utm_campaign=trivago_5040 for £99. So there are rooms out there but difficult to find. I suspect if you wait a bit more rooms will be released directly by the hotel and cheaper deals... but that's easy for me to say knowing I'll be sleeping in my own bed the night before race day!

Why do they have to have these things all so close to other events?
London the week after, waiting on the Highland Fling date which will inevitably be either the 19th or 26th etc.

I've always got a sneaking suspicion that the travel industry runs a cartel where travel is concerned - mind you things have moved on and Mrs J has had some success with her forth coming trip to the states.

I get the impression that they want to squeeze as much money out of you as possible in the UK, hope you manage to find somewhere - after all you don't want to be too far away.
