After all the complaints about Manchester mara on sunday, it would have been worse if we had all turned up and they had decided to cancel it because of the weather. Thats what happened at the Shakespeare marathon, 2 of my club mates had trained hard for it - both on course for sub 3:30, they travelled down from North Wales stayed the weekend (prob cost quite a few pennies) only to find the marathon was cancelled and only the Half mara was on.

I would do it again. I would however have to think very hard about stepping out the house if the weather was as guaranteed as it was on sunday. the same thing happened to me on an xtramile sportive, the weather was horrific! so I think the company are jinxed for me
It had all the good points of a big city marathon and the support was unbelievable. Yes there were problems, I was a bit ripping that no gels left at the timperley aid station, but tbh i was in a really bad mood anyway. The marshalls were amazing and so encouraging and they must have been just as fed up with the weather. if the weather had been a glorious spring day the end and baggage problems would noway near have been as noticeable as they were on sunday...you wouldnt be rushing for your coat/dry clothes as quickly if there was a nice dry park to sit and bask in the glory of your achievements. Goes to show that it just takes one slip to have catastrophic consequences

That's a really good point clairster
Funnily enough, I think I ran better because of the awful weather. I was so worried about hypothermia I couldn't wait to get to the end!

Shadow - I also had clubmates running Stratford. How awful must it have been to be standing on the start line, fired up for a marathon after months of training to be told you were only running halfway?!
Manc would never have cancelled, they had too much to lose. So I'm very glad I picked Manchester over Stratford!

Max - I would seriously wait and see if the apology they issued is backed up with a contingency plan. I would expect to see what they had in place for next year before I think about it.

I liked the course and apart from the massive baggage balls up it was good on the whole, nice support and varied course. I carried my own gels so didn't know they'd run out.
Also you can park close enough to the finish to not need the baggage so if they don't fix it you don't need to use it.
If the weather is good I think the finish area would have been great. Sitting on the grass with a can of lager listening to the Captial roadshow in the sunshine (yes I know, unlikely in Manchester in April!)
I would do it again.

Battlecat - my thoughts exactly! I grew up and lived in Manchester for years - I'm sure it was sunny in April at least once ....
I am now 37.

Actually, April and May are usually quite nice, it's June - August that are usually awful.
