As part of the announcement of the new Birmingham International Marathon (which I'm surprised doesn't seem to have been discussed on Fetch?), I noticed this tweet from Great Run about a "British Marathon Series" twitter.com If it was (pretty much) any other organisation I'd be happy about that, but will it bring the first +£100 British marathon entry fee? Where will the other events in the series be? Given Great Run's existing race locations, and presumably relationships with councils, I wouldn't be surprised to see Newcastle, Bristol, Manchester (given Manchester City Council won't let the Greater Manchester Marathon into it's area of control)? Glasgow and Cardiff both seem to be large cities "missing" marathons... |

Oooh. I do like a big city marathon. I suspect that you are right about the price though, Nelly.

Looks like it's the existing Great Birmingham Run twice.

Will be interesting to see what races they have and hopefully the price isn't too prohibitive. I love doing the Great North Run, although if they proceed to have title sponsors like in that Donnington Race then I will have to not consider them as I can't run a race with that paper on my race number.

What's wrong with the Nottingham Evening Post? - though I see they've dropped the Evening these days - they published one of my poems when I was 10 ![]() |

""The Birmingham International Marathon, which will take place in October 2017, is to form part of a new three-event Great Run British Marathon Series, with another marathon in the north of the country and one south of Birmingham to be announced in the future."" athleticsweekly.com Reading the article I think the other two events will also both be new events, i.e. VLM won't be part of the series. |
