The revenue generated from the adverts on the site is a critical part of our funding - and it's because of these ads that I can offer the site for free.
But using the site for free AND blocking the ads doesn't feel like a great thing to do, which is why this box is so large and inconvenient.
Some sites will completely block your access, but I'm not doing that - I'm appealing to your good nature instead.
Did you know that you can allow ads for specific sites, whilst still blocking them on others?
Also, finally managed to catch specialist subject records open in Bristol. Bought loads of stuff from them in the last two years but never managed to catch them open due to lockdown. Brilliant shop if emerging British and North American punk is your thing.
Went to my first 'post lockdown' gig last night. Bit of a contrast to the previous one - which was Foo Fighters at Reading in 2019.
'Serious Child' is a former colleague from work, who took early retirement 18 months ago to follow his dream of becoming a full time musician. In retrospect perhaps not great timing... He's been collaborating over the last year with Andy Ruddy, another singer-songwriter, to write and produce an album - and last night was the first night of a modest UK tour. Quite an intimate event, with around 30 people in a pub in Cambridge.
Here are two tracks from their album that I think are brilliant:
Thanks Ed, I’ll have a listen later. We went to Victorious festival on Saturday and had a good day. It was a late decision to go and we only chose it because it is entirely outdoors. A good decision in the end and a good day was had.
Tomorrow we have Frank Turner in Hull then that’s it for a couple of weeks before it all kicks off again.
I've got Nick Cave and Warren Ellis in just over a week.
First gig was due to be Peter Hook and Light doing 'Joy Division Orchestrated' - which is JD songs performed with a full orchestra and mainly guest vocalists, but that's been put back into 2022 - think the orchestra social distancing was the issue.
I’ve also got tickets for Jeff Rosenstock next April, me and my son have a pact that when he eventually tours the U.K. we will go everywhere possible. So we are doing 7 dates in 11 days!
