Hi ,
It looks like you're using an ad blocker.

The revenue generated from the adverts on the site is a critical part of our funding - and it's because of these ads that I can offer the site for free. But using the site for free AND blocking the ads doesn't feel like a great thing to do, which is why this box is so large and inconvenient. Some sites will completely block your access, but I'm not doing that - I'm appealing to your good nature instead. Did you know that you can allow ads for specific sites, whilst still blocking them on others?

Thanks,

Hi, Does anyone else have problems with the Garmin heart rate reading too high? This seems to be a problem in the cold. I ran this morning on a nice easy pace and my HR seems to have magically gone done as I picked up the pace in the last few miles. Has anyone found a solution?

Nope, it's you, Homer. You're weird :-p And Chiefy, of course.

But seriously, I've been out in sub zeroes recently, and it's not something I've noticed. Forerunner 35, optical. It does occasionally produce a few minutes of odd readings, but that doesn't seem temperature related.

Sometimes after exercise, I'm getting the opposite: surprisingly low heart rates. Not sure at all if it's an actual thing, or a readings thing.

Wrist or chest base?
If chest it could be connection as in the cold we warm up slower

Are you maybe putting it on a notch loose? For actual exercise, where it may be jiggling more, I tend to have it one notch tighter. Maybe the cold has everything (ooh er) just slightly contracted from normal. Once you get the blood flowing and a bit of a "pump", then it's reading properly again?

I've had erratic readings in the cold, taking up to 3 miles for it read properly. This was yesterday after a 1-mile warmup, and this was a 10k effort, so it took approx 2.25 miles for it to read correctly. This is with a chest strap, but once settled down it was accurate.

I get all sorts of silliness. I've tried tightening it up and loosening it. I've had the same Garmin for a happy 2.5 years but for the last month its just been silly. I don't remember getting this last year (off to look now)
