Does anybody know where I can find the formula(e) behind the interval pace tables and calculators out there? I mean the sort of thing that asks you how fast you want to run a target race, and then what length of interval you want to do, then gives you an interval pace to aim for. Where do the numbers come from? Thanks. |

There is a calculator on this very site. http://www.fetcheveryone.com/training-calculators-trainingpace.php

Thanks becca, that is one of the best calculators I've found, but I was really looking for how those numbers are calculated... I suppose I could put lots of numbers in and try to reverse engineer it. |

Perhaps Mr Fetch can help? If you plan on reverse engineering, remember that if the limit never approaches anything, the limit does not exist. |

I reverse engineered it myself - I looked at lots of interval sessions, done by lots of runners, training for lots of distances - and then I did some curve fitting and rounding. If you asked me to do it again, I'd probably get different results - but by some miracle, it does seem to be pretty good

Thanks both. That sounds like it might be more difficult than I was expecting. I did wonder why I couldn't find a simple formula by googling. |

Have you looked at the Daniels thread? http://www.fetcheveryone.com/viewtopic.php?id=46180 |

The Daniels "Big Spreadsheet" might give you an easier thing to reverse engineer. electricblues.com |
