The ref couldn't not give it given the rule and the current guidance. It did make contact, his arm was in an un-natural position, and it was clearly in the box. Ref had no choice but it's the sort of situation where I wished he was able to use his discretion.

If I was reffing I would’ve pretended I hadn’t seen the contact and given a goal kick. I get confused with var, do all possible hand balls have to be reviewed, because not giving a pen was not a clear and obvious mistake.

Mixed emotions here, I’d love to see Connor Gallagher come on but I don’t want him to get hurt in a game that’s already over. Also, given the unlikely scenario that Chelsea would sell him to us, international recognition is only going to raise his profile and price.

What are we all talking about? I get we were going to tonk them but it was handball. Hand away from his body. It doesn’t matter if it’s on target them the rules.
That happened at the euros and we didn’t get the pen we would be livid.
Whether San Marino should be in the qualifiers or whether we want to introduce a mercy rule is one thing.
But the rules are still the rules.
