I refuse to believe that we, as a nation, are genetically unable to win a football tournament any more than I believe that Germany are automatically going to always beat us. I don’t think it’s a foregone conclusion. I don’t know if we win or lose tonight but I’m excited because the possibility is there that we can win, and if we do we have a series of banana skins to slip on before the final. Who knows? Is it likely? Probably not. But past performance is no guarantee of future returns and making predictions is hard, especially about the future.
