While its obscene what CEOs/Traders earn and is not worth what they do, they are at least still working whereas the football players are not

I'd bet that the players have their fitness programs set and they're putting in several hours a day. Maybe not the same time or intensity as normal but they're still going to be putting some serious work in. For a start, have you seen how fast some of them can run 5k? |

Controversial, but how much wealth does an over paid footballer generate? Those CEOs that are still working generate wealth, jobs and careers. Some of them are even managing the companies that deliver food that we need to eat. I just wonder if society is heading for a big reset? |

As I said, I think the amount they get paid is obscene but it’s what the market dictates, which is exactly the defence for footballers’ wages. I don’t suggest that they aren’t working, and possibly working hard. I’d just suggest their position and salary are out of step with the real world when essential workers are paid so much less. And generating wealth and jobs is a controversial position when you look at the type of jobs and who gets the wealth. A fine example of trickle down economics. |

Nellers, I think footballers are just glorified consumers. They get paid and waste it (probably supporting criminals indirectly or maybe even directly). Nothing they do actually generates wealth.

Drenched in class snobbery this. Majority of footballers are working class kids who made good. So pick on them rather than a fat cat privately educated middle/upper class CEO. Dress it up as the CEO provides jobs and is therefore somehow better/more deserving than the footballer for his wages. |

Well said, Leggy. And the proportion of absolute tossers amongst the footballers I’ve met or had personal accounts of is no more than any other walk of life.

Fenners - it also depends on your idea of wealth theguardian.com Speak to the kids who go to the school he built or the people who have recovered in the hospital he donated £200,000 to - ask them how much 'wealth' he's generated. |

I think that view is off at a complete tangent from the original discussion The key for me is all of these categories, CEO, Bankers/traders and yes some footballers (not all granted) are paid way more than they are worth. |

I agree completely with you there Bazo, but in a world where they all are paid ridiculously obscene amounts, whether they do work for charity or donate to the community or not, going after just the footballers for a wage cut is wrong.
