Hi ,
It looks like you're using an ad blocker.

The revenue generated from the adverts on the site is a critical part of our funding - and it's because of these ads that I can offer the site for free. But using the site for free AND blocking the ads doesn't feel like a great thing to do, which is why this box is so large and inconvenient. Some sites will completely block your access, but I'm not doing that - I'm appealing to your good nature instead. Did you know that you can allow ads for specific sites, whilst still blocking them on others?

Thanks,
Ian Williams aka Fetch

RC car racing is back! Bizarrely, because it counts as a "sport" up to 15 of us from within our local authority were allowed to meet up on Sunday and race toy cars!

Was good fun. Track was ok but a lot of lumps. I was the one who cut the grass (over 2 hours, on Friday, only one mower was working so I had to cut it twice, myself, when normally 3 folk would traipse round once and do it in 20 or 30 mins.) I got the 2WD new ESC set up and with timing set to 6 out of 7 it had a decent speed. Needed to make sure pushing it that hard didn't over heat. Didn't seem to. I think the meshing of pinion and spur is OK, but the diff might be going. Feels a bit crunchy. Need to look at that.

Anyway, just 8 cars in each of 2WD and 4WD. And I was 2nd last and last respectively! But as me and the other guy who was last said, we're not miles off. And if other new people turn up we should be ahead of them. Just need more practice, better car set up (other cars rode the bumps better - softened suspension?)

Nice to see everyone and some good chat. Finished early at 4 rather than 5, but it's still most of a day.

Great CV protocols - we all had gloves on when marshalling (handling other people's cars), masks on throughout, both indoors in the containers working on cars and even outdoors while racing and marshalling. Hand sanitiser before and after touching hand rails to get on rostrum, 2m distanced throughout etc.

Number of members is increasing, so when people are allowed to travel from further afield, it could be quite busy. Great! :-) G

Well, here's the update you all haven't been asking for: third club race yesterday. We're getting about 12 people and 15 cars out, which is good, from just our local authority. All the protocols in place still. 2 weeks until (Scotland) people can come from further afield.

I was woeful. 2nd last in both (out of 8, so I could have said 7th, I suppose). All good fun though. And good chat. Benefit of being small is 11.30 - 3.45 so not so much time wasted of the day!

Ask away if you have any questions about the cars, racing, or just radio controlled toys etc. :-) G

Hi icenutter. Somebody looked! ;-)

Yeah, shows you the standard at the top level: fast, accurate, aggressive but using judgement. Do you see how they control the cars in the AIR?! They can turn and adjust the pitch and yaw in the air using throttle and steering to land just right. Amazing!

I can't, by the way! :-) G

That was fun. First weekend where travel from another authority was permitted so we had folk from Edinburgh, further west in Scotland and down from Dundee and further north too. About 30 odd of us, in what was called 2 bubbles, but was all a bit random.

Next week we're getting over the 30 people and hopefully 70+ cars out, so should be much busier and more fun.

Driving wise, I won the "B" Final (first of the bottom 8 drivers). I would have made it into the "A" final but for a timing detection glitch which meant that 3 of my laps in 1st round of qualifying heats and 5 of my laps in 2nd round weren't detected! Which meant I qualified 14th out of 16. But then from 6th place on the grid I made my way up to win and by a decent chunk (half a lap I think). Quite enjoyed that.

I was also newbie-liaison for the day! (You're quite a chatty person and you know how it all works now, could you show this guy the ropes?!) We're trying to make sure we are welcoming to new joiners. It can be a bit confusing / daunting with all the timings and what not, but the new guys did well and seemed to enjoy themselves. They said they'd be back.

Big commitment from me - to rebuild my front and rear shock absorbers on my 2WD. The oil should be replaced every few races, and proper racers change them for different track conditions. Me, haven't serviced them since I got the car 3 years ago. :-O D'oh! :-) G

That was yesterday. 16-19s is me going from 6th to 3rd at 1st corner (white car with orange/pink front and yellow side), then on rostrum 3rd from right, hood up and green/yellow AvoidEveryone mask, then 20-24s is me leading and holding off second place (red car). Quite pleased with that. Good fun day. :-) G

About This Thread

I can't believe that we've got Crafts, Gardening, Computer Games, but not model cars, trains...!

Just don't call them toys!

My particular hobby was 1/10th scale radio controlled car racing. I'm now looking to get into radio controlled planes. We have some Airfix model builders in here and Lego builders too. Any type of model vehicles really! Planes, trains, automobiles... boats, helicopters, anything! Come join in! :-) G
