Hi ,
It looks like you're using an ad blocker.

The revenue generated from the adverts on the site is a critical part of our funding - and it's because of these ads that I can offer the site for free. But using the site for free AND blocking the ads doesn't feel like a great thing to do, which is why this box is so large and inconvenient. Some sites will completely block your access, but I'm not doing that - I'm appealing to your good nature instead. Did you know that you can allow ads for specific sites, whilst still blocking them on others?

Thanks,

Ooh, interesting suggestion Nelly. Hadn't thought of that. I had a design I wanted to do from back in 1985 but I've realised it would look a bit "jingoistic" so wasn't sure what to go with. FE could be cool! :-) G

Right, all built, just need to paint now. It worked fine, once I'd remembered I needed to link the receiver, set up the speed controller etc! Need to set it up for my other transmitter too.

I'm not great at design and art, so this next bit might be a challenge. Maybe I should just do the box art? But I'd quite like to experiment a bit with spray painting some design on the body. :-) G

How's your Lunch Box Nick? have you driven it much or is it a "shelf queen" (what they call a model that is too precious to bash around with!) :-) G

Shelf queen - definitely. I might end up giving it to my grandson so that it gets some use!

Omgoodness, what a state the cars were in on Sunday! We had showers throughout the day, the ground started wet and got wetter! Cars were covered in grass and latterly mud as the track got ripped up.

Surprisingly I did better than normal and made it into the A final (out of A to D) in 2WD, started 4th and finished 4th. And B final (out of A to C) in 4WD and started 2nd and finished 2nd. I actually got quicker in the wet!

Just call me Michael Schumacher! Was good fun. But the cars are going to take a lot of cleaning.

I bought various paints and things for the Tamiya Hornet, so I'm going to try my own design - red flames, white and silver main body, with some hexagon texture and minimal stickers. If it doesn't work I've also invested in a graffiti remover that claims to be able to clean shell back to clear to redo it in the prescribed black with stickers! My insurance policy! :-) G

Quite pleased with paint of my Tamiya Hornet. The box art is easy, it's just all black. But I wanted to try my hand at a bit of a design. So I bought a paint mask pattern (flames - not very inventive!) and various different spray paint colours. And also some paint remover, in case I completely stuffed it up!!

I wanted to try red flames (bonnet, sides and rear) and a sort of textured white / silver main body colour. It sort of worked, but I've learned a few things!

Firstly, the pattern masks were the wrong way round. You really want them to be holes (like a stencil) so that you are masking everything else and painting your shape. The ones I got were the opposite. They were stickers, so I had to paint main body and then it left blank that I filled in with the colour at end. Because main body was white and I was doing red flames, it meant I was doing dark on top of light. So I've got some pink bits where the red has gone through.

Then other things are: it smells (def do outside, which I did, but not on windy day or rain!!); make sure mask is tight down, the spray paint really does get into anything that is slightly raised; patience, it needs lots of coats. I must have done about 5 of the white and silver.

But it looks pretty good, I think. I've just thought, I could have masked off everything except where the flames were to go *after* I had done all the white and silver, then I wouldn't have got red where it shouldn't have been. Shout if you want a pic (I've still to put on some stickers, so that will be tonight probably).

I drove it outside on grass with body on. It's so slow and unstable compared to my real racing buggies! So probably a shelf queen! Or for the youngsters to play with.

We have a Doors Open Day (virtual) at our club this weekend. Doors Open Day is meant to be for buildings that are not usually open to public, who then make themselves open for just one day. Like civic buildings and things. This year it's virtual (obviously) with public not actually able to visit. How our club got us into it I don't know (we don't have any Doors!!) but we will be filming and Facebook Live from 9am on Sun 20 Sep, if anyone wants to see what a day of racing looks like. 10am races until 5pm.

I forgot to mention that on 7 Sep I sort of won my 2WD final (a low final, D Final out of A to E finals) but a win's a win! And last Sunday 13 Sep, I made the A Final for my 4WD. OK, I qualified last (6th of 6) and finished last, but first time ever making the top final (out of only A to C finals, I think last weekend). Progress, ish! :-) G

No one read my blog this month. I guess a title of "Nothing to see..." while honest, probably wasn't likely to attract readers!

Great fun last Sun at club RC racing. Soooo muddy! Given that it had been chucking down late in week and all Saturday, not surprising. Rain had stopped by Sun morning, and it was actually a bright afternoon with even a bit of sun. But ground soaking. I actually wore my welly boots that MrsS(rrr) got me for the horse yard!

Decent turn out, with about 35 cars / 25 people, including kids and families. Went with green and blue tyres. Don't think anyone was on yellows (dry tyres) all day. Did OK in qualifying but lost it a bit in last ones. 2WD B final started 2nd finished 2nd, was good, not crashing as much and better with wheel to wheel racing. 4WD A final started 5th finished 6th and last! Because David McL was 6th and won (he'd had a mechanical, hence was out of position really).

I've cleaned the shells, wings and wheels, but really not the mechanicals. Hope I don't have too much rust. Have bought some new green spike tyres for front wheels on 4WD, as it's only going to get wetter. Prob need some more greens all round for 2WD and 4WD. Hope it stays dry for Sunday! :-) G

I can't believe that we've got Crafts, Gardening, Computer Games, but not model cars, trains...!

Just don't call them toys!

My particular hobby was 1/10th scale radio controlled car racing. I'm now looking to get into radio controlled planes. We have some Airfix model builders in here and Lego builders too. Any type of model vehicles really! Planes, trains, automobiles... boats, helicopters, anything! Come join in! :-) G
