Thanks NE and Snoot. I'll start looking out for 255s in that case.
I have some trailtalon 250s, Gus, but I'm not especially fond of them. I seem to have been wearing x-talons off road forever.

And I'm not really a roadie. I'm an xc runner by trade, not enough mud on the fells for me. But then I'd hope that would be rectified in winter.

I also am not a fan of Trail Talons, I don't think they have enough structure to them. I remember buying a pair of the very first model that came out - was it the 270? And the uppers fell to bits very quickly, but not before I'd decided they were useless for running in. Bobs gets on with them though, she puts a high arch orthotic into them and finds them great. I remember she won the Cumbria Way Ultra in a pair

p.s. I forgot to mention - I was loaned a pair of the prototype 255s and really didn't find them any different to the 200s, in fact I would say they are very like the old "standard fit" 212. I had to give them back to Inov8 bloke though

Sorry DT just realised I'd attributed your joke to Northern Exile. Shocking.

Surely fellrunners don't use the paths anyway? Just straight up and down the hill, any way you choose.
Some tracks round here (I live in Settle) have been really torn up by trail bikes over the summer. But hopefully not up Ingleborough.
I did the 3 peaks a few years ago in a very dry spell in innov8 mudclaws and wow that made my feet ache. Since then I've used some version of roclite when running on tracks.

I've run the 3P race in road shoes. It was fine.

Erosion caused by mountain bikes is an issue in lots of places. Fozzy - am I right in thinking they're banned on Ilkley Moor? I saw lots of tyre tracks when I was there last Friday.
It's unfair to place the blame for continued erosion solely on mountain bikers btw, but there are some places where they have definitely caused a lot of damage.
