I was talking about Baildon moor trig -> cattle grid CP before you cross road and head up to Weecher.

There was always a lovely route off the moor which meant you didn't need to run along either road for more than 20m

Yes, we are talking about the same bit of the route then. It's been that for a few years I'm sure, they put a CP at the bottom of the descent to ensure that you did it. I know this because the first year it changed I had to run back to it.

That's silly then. The CP was on the road crossing to make the road crossing safer.

Spoils the best part of the whole route too

Difficult to see on phone, but the light blue line looks correct.

Green too far E from trig, blue much longer and horrible slog along road

Have another look when you have a bigger screen. The blue line from today is how you have to do, the CP is at the western extremity. The other lines are my efforts from previous years.

Fozzy, I've been digging around and the last time the race was ran with the Baildon CP in the "old" position was 2016, apparently it was moved due to safety conditions. I don't want to sound pedantic, but was there a "correct" line off the summit? I can see three separate lines that I took over the years? I daresay none were appreciably better than the other!! :-)

Is this still an LDWA event or a race now?

The old CP was for safety crossing Bingley Rd, so moving it for "safety conditions" sounds silly to me! They probably just didn't like that people couldn't navigate off the top...but anyway.

There wasn't a "correct" line per se, but there was a best line. See below (you need a better map than OS to show it....)
