Thanks both ^

There’s a lovely little terrace above Arncliffe that is heaven on Earth. I’ve always fancied a light snooze up there funnily enough 💤

Apparently there once was a fell race in Middlesmoor, I have been unable to find the route of it though. Possibly it was part of the annual bell festival.

A couple of us have thought about the possibility of a Nidderdale Fell Race for years, however the topography of the area really doesn't lend itself well, land access is another massive issue. Rob Jarman suffered lots of abuse and negative feedback as a consequence of his "Frostbite 30" ultra, eventually he just said enough was enough and binned it.

A feral after-hours outing sounds like it might be the way NE? ;-)

Yeah, all the moors around there are shooting areas aren't they - I can see access being an issue.

A Meugher - Great Whernside race from Ramsgill would give a reasonable route - although not necessarily huge amounts of climb.

The other one would be up towards Little Whernside to the N, but parking/access v difficult at that end of the valley.

Maybe not huge amount of climb but tussocks and wet ground aplenty - one for the bogtrotters :-)

D - it wasn't just the hassle he got from local landowners (which I know was significant), the final straw was getting pilloried by a local club that shall remain nameless. A load of non-off road types did the race and didn't like the weather, the autonomous nature of running between the checkpoints, the river crossings, the food provided .... they really panned the poor bugger. And seeing as he was doing it for the joy of it rather than the money, he decided to chuck it. I've thought about reviving it under the auspices of our own club, but we'd probably run into the same problems.

DT - good job you've got the correct kit to post on this thread. Taped seams only.

NE - that's a bit like entering a cycling event and saying you don't like riding a bike.
