^^ Hohum my main criteria is local. Maybe I'll get to travel further away to race in future. There're lots of Lake District races that look fun & challenging. Lots of Peak races still to try though first!

Does anybody else get really itchy legs for a day or two following a muddy, boggy run in the lake district or pennines (for example)?
Or is it just me?
And if you do, how do you avoid it?

I think it might the acid in peat that does it. I’ve had it in the past. Washing your legs in a beck or with a bottle of water kept in the car boot straight after running might help

I think you might be right about acid; it's always worse after proper peaty or sphagnummy bog.
I've never really thought to rinse them straight away. It sounds obvious now you've said it!

A long time ago I used to go walking with a guy who was keen on washing his (old skool brown leather) walking boots in becks or even puddles if we’d been anywhere peaty. He said the acid in the peat ruined the leather

I always rinse my shoes if I can. Bog water definitely rots inov8s.

Use moisturiser on your lower legs. It makes the crap easier to wash off AND stops itchy legs.
** added benefit of silky smooth legs :-D

That might be better than scaly legs, after 4 days of scratching.

I was going to suggest similar to NE but in fact use the slightly less metrosexual approach of taking a pan scourer to my legs after peaty outings myself
