Skipped my session last week as was gearing up for a June 5th ultra, but that has sadly been pushed back! So no excuse to neglect the gym now :D Wondering if anyone has any advice for a novice boulderer (me!) looking to get into top roping and eventually lead climbing? When my gym's instructional sessions are back online I'm really keen to get started on it. I feel like it will help me get a bit more comfortable with heights, and (from what I understand) the slightly less powerful but more endurance nature of it might fit better for me. Happy climbing all.

Brilliant session today with Billy. Wall was predictably quiet on a super hot day. Am definitely improving. Arms and brain are now fried though.

Nice session today on my own. Only short, but didn't really take any breaks. The wall was nicely quiet and there were quite a lot of beginners.

Good session today! Flashed a couple of blues (V3-4 range) and made progress on a few harder problems that I've been working on. Felt really flat last session so today was a pleasant surprise ☺️

Looking forward to heading back in this week. Managed to pick up a right forearm niggle (too many side pinchy holds too soon after lockdown break 😝) so put on the sensible hat rather than powering through. It’s been three weeks so I’ll test it out this week and see how it is.

Well done Paj. Good to see you enjoying in too Linds 😀

PAJ - we did the sessions at our climbing wall to get into top roping and then did our first lead session just before lockdown 3.0 - once Dave’s knee is sorted we’ll be back in to finish off the sessions. Not really any advice other than go and try it!!! 😀 The mix of bouldering and rope climbing is good and you can see how they benefit each other too. We rope climb more than boulder but we keep doing our bouldering sessions to help with when you get a dynamic or strength move part way through a roped climb.

Me too Linds! Then I just need Dave fixed - started to get a bit bored of the auto belays, but they should have changed some of the routes by now as I’ve had time off - plus it limits you on routes obvs, hence me trying too hard on my project doing holds that were not trainable for during lockdown and too much too soon on my post lockdown arms!!! 🤪🤪🤪
