The Camargue (Rhone delta) in France is famous for its flamingoes. It's quite common to see them in Montpellier or Arles.

There are flamingoes as far north as the Netherlands, a mix of native ones that have interbred with zoo-escapee Caribbean ones.

Talking of Netherlands, and not realising what wildlife was across Europe, I read about there being 10 wolf packs in the Netherlands today. Seems they were only rewilded a few year ago and thriving.

I was in Naxos 30 years ago and had missed flamingos by a few days; around April time. Saw hoopoes every day and plenty of egrets, which made up for it. Also some gigantic moths.

There are lots of skeins of geese flying over at the moment. Not the clear v-formations of the summer, but haphazard v-ish shapes.

Many more geese this evening, honking away. I really feel for them. It’s been windy today and is starting to get cold. What amazing animals they are.
