I took the dog out yesterday for our morning walk a good hour earlier, just before sunrise. I saw something white flash across my field of vision and fancied it was a barn owl. Walking down towards the meadow, I got a fantastic view of it hunting over the scrubland. I must have watched for a good 5 or 6 minutes until it disappeared in the distance, and the dog got antsy.
What a fantastic start to the day.

lovely Bullfinch spot there Curly. I see them in the Lakes when Iām up there but thatās another finch that Iād never see down here.
I remember when I was very young my grandad used to shoot the bullfinches with his air rifle as, in his mind, they used to eat the buds off his fruit trees and ruin his crop. Jesusā¦.
Thinking about that makes me realise that I should stop complaining about the woodpigeons. But they really do devastate everything here. Hate them.

Haha. Donāt know how true it is but I once read woodpigeons serve almost no purpose to the wider ecology.
