I'd like to do a Scottish birdwatching holiday this year. Any recommendations?

I found Heatherlea and the Grant Arms in Speyside. My family live near the Cairngorms, so could tie in a visit to them.

Also happy to go further afield inc islands.

Scribbler, envy you your sparrows. Could you send some my way? :) They always make me smile.

I did a race at Holkham on the north Norfolk coast on Sunday, and the marshes behind the dunes there are a great place for wigeon - there were hundreds of them there, and much whistling was heard.

They make me smile too J2R. When we moved in, we would see 2 fairly regularly. We put food and nest boxes out and now look where we are!

A pair did nest in the box and we saw one brood fledging.

I would recommend a trip to Mull. Fantastic place and a great variety of birds to be seen.

Mull gets my thumbs up, too. Cairngorms area holds a number of specialities, too, which you're unlikely to see anywhere else - crested tits, ptarmigan, dotterel, Scottish crossbill. I was there in early September (staying in Aviemore), and although I didn't see all I was hoping to, I did see crested tits, and had a great time all round.

That's a good number HellsBells. I can currently manage a dozen on a daily basis with another couple of regulars and 3 or 4 occasionals.

Heatherlea, who I’ve already looked at, do birding holidays. I’d been considering Cairngorms with them and then spending time with family who live in Morayshire. It looks like I can do a double trip starting at Cairngorms and staying in their hotel and then heading off to Mull with them. Oooh.
