Stunning day out, drove down the coast home. These pics were just beside Carrick-a-Rede rope bridge (well, half a mile or so). To one has Rathlin in middle distance and Mull(?) in the background. Definitely Scotland!
Thousands of painted ladies around, must have been a late hatching.

Haven't seen a single painted lady this year. The migrants must have bred.

I have just realised that what I have always thought to be a painted lady is actually a small tortoiseshell. I think. The big brood was the butterfly species whose picture I added on the last page.

Yes, the picture on previous page was a (beautiful, fresh) small tortoiseshell. They overwinter as adults in the UK, so with luck that one will spend the winter in somebody's shed, and breed in the spring.

No birds due to long days at work. But a night time run meant I saw a fox and my first ever live badgers. Can't tell you how excited I was. The badgers were within 30 yards of our house. Wonderful 🙂

Badgers are always good to see (assuming they’re not dead in the gutter)

bonners Badgers are very much creatures of habit and use the same paths generation after generation. When you know where to look these are often very easy to spot, particularly where they cross under/over fences and walls or in the spring as ground vegetation in woodland starts to grow - because the badger trods will be bare paths. So you should have a good chance of seeing the badgers again in the same spot or very close to it.

Thank you FF. Unfortunately they were crossing the main road, so I ended up running backwards down the main road flagging the traffic down to stop them being run over😊
