Hi ,
It looks like you're using an ad blocker.

The revenue generated from the adverts on the site is a critical part of our funding - and it's because of these ads that I can offer the site for free. But using the site for free AND blocking the ads doesn't feel like a great thing to do, which is why this box is so large and inconvenient. Some sites will completely block your access, but I'm not doing that - I'm appealing to your good nature instead. Did you know that you can allow ads for specific sites, whilst still blocking them on others?

Thanks,
Ian Williams aka Fetch

Six oystercatcher, a moorhen and a pair of teal on a tiny pond near Skipton that has had breeding shellduck for a few years. Sadly no sign of shellduck (yet)

If you get a really good clear view, then chiffchaff have dark legs and a somewhat vague eye stripe, willow warbler have paler legs and a stronger eye stripe.

But don't be surprised if your bird has middling legs and a middling eye stripe - as DT says, until they shout it's never 100%, and even then you can get mixed-song individual birds who *really* can't tell the difference 😉

Spot on KinkyS! That's where the Willow/Chiff comes in! Infuriating when there's no typical song! Keep listening HellsBells although the coming cold weather might dampen the singing spirits.

Another in my series of winter finch/bunting flocks - a very chirpy little flock of linnets yesterday all lined up on telegraph wires.

I had either a chiffchaff or a willow warbler in some willows near me today. The little blighter was totally silent. I assume chiffs will not be averse to spending time in willows?
