Greenfinches do seem to be recovering here too, they're quite noisy at the moment

I wish my neighbours were in the same league as yours Hke. I live in an essentially urban environment and with only a couple of exceptions the overall approach to a garden is: chop, eradicate trees hedges and anything green. Ahh... including grass or weeds/wild flowers and pave over. Astro turf is catching on too.

Mrs Sparrow hawk was seen having a nice Robin flavoured breakfast in our garden this morning.

@ steve45 I feel your pain. Worst is over the past 10yrs seeing so much old/ancient(?) Hawthorn ripped out of gardens around where I live, replaced with breezeblocks or panel fencing. Yes it's a bit spiky but it supports lots of wildlife.

Nightmare Steve!
I bought half an acre of field with my chapel in 2006. I have let it go wild what I wasn't using and slowly created areas to grow my veg, fruit, medicinals. It is surprising what even small sections of rough grass do...
I work as a garden and permaculture designer, largely on wildlife friendly and rewilding projects, all organic and/or biodynamic. Very exciting to see the habitat restored/created.

DT, great news on CC and BC. I heard a blackcap this morning singing with a lot more confidence and volume than the rather reticent blackcaps of last week. Maybe it's been to a blackcap assertiveness course.

Mine was sotto voce

I actually saw it, which was nice. I haven’t seen a chiffchaff yet

Interesting, DT. I'm wondering whether these could be young males on their first breeding season, not quite knowing what to do yet?
