DT, you've either seen/heard a chiffchaff, in which case, great, or you've gone insane, in which case not so great. Hope it's the former.

I was actually watching a chiffchaff this afternoon, as opposed to just hearing them.

We went for a walk after lunch and heard a chiffchaff a couple of hundred yards from home. It was a really nice afternoon here; very spring like. Next up I guess is blackcap

Yes, lovely here too. I heard a couple of blackcaps today, as I did a couple of days ago, but as then, they were pretty subdued, doing a quieter song from deep within the thicket. It's as if they were not confident enough to give it the full blackcap yet.

I’m sure chiffchaff take a bit of getting going on arrival. It’s like they’ve forgotten how to chiffchaff

Chiff chaff chiff chaff chiff chaff chiff chaff!

That's all it did though and then stopped. Definitely not got properly going... probably confused by the combination of really warm sunshine and bloomin' nippy wind!

Also 3 dippers :-)

'My' chiffchaffs have fully mastered their (admittedly unchallenging) repertoire, it's the blackcaps which are currently a little coy.

I'm looking forward to dippers in 3 months time, in Derbyshire. Until then I fear I will continue to live in a state of sad dipperlessness.
