Just went for a walk along the beach in the drizzle. Saw a huge group of ninety to a hundred birds swimming offshore. They were all female Goosander. Incredible.

No birds to note on my regular route run just now, but a stoat ran across the path in front of me, the first I've seen there! I'm doing well with the animals at the moment.

Was just about to post that I saw a stoat on tonight's little dog-walk :)
Last year I could almost guarantee seeing one by the side of the irrigation reservoir - tonight's was the first of the year.

Chif-chaffs noticeable by their absence last week or so

Now know exactly where to see and hear yellowhammer - so glad they seem to be doing much better here this year :)

Yes, Rosehip, not heard chiffchaffs in the last few days. I suspect some will start singing again in a month or so.

I had a shock yesterday afternoon, a bat flying around it seemed a bit panicked so I'm assuming its roost must have been disturbed. It kept trying to go under the eaves of my house.

Green woodpeckers are starting to laugh at me again :) - I've seen them around, but they've been quiet.

Convinced my other half to drive past local nature reserve after our fish and chips on the harbour (saw cormorant, curlew, herons, gulls and plenty of swallows etc). Was on the off chance we may see an owl. Before we got to the nature reserve, a barn owl flew across the road. Pulled in and got some long photos of it perched so heavily cropped but was just nice to watch it flying. And it was my partners first wild owl.

Got home from picking son #1 up from work at 07:00 this morning and he whisper shouts from the kitchen 'Mum, mum, quick!'

I come and look at the peanut feeder hanging outside the window, and a rather splendid looking, green woodpecker with a bright red head was feasting! Absolutely beautiful ♥️
