Apparently it's been to Chatsworth today jacdaw. I think it's doing a young vulture gap month and doing a spot of tourism over here. As well as giving the Corvids of Derbyshire something to get in a right old tis about. The link below has a piece of film from yesterday of it getting a friendly welcome from the local crows around Froggatt. twitter.com |

If we started leaving some fallen stock on the high fells, they'd be breeding here within 10 years.

Tempted (though not in today's weather) but I think it's largely a case of being in the right place at the right time. It seems to be roaming quite widely and there were people looking for it today where it was yesterday then it suddenly popped up several miles away. I'm heading up to Sheffield on Friday morning so I'll certainly keep a keen out for it then if it's still around.

It's mayhem round my feeders this morning. Everyone seems to have brought the family. Good to see the Greenfinches with a youngster and juvenile Chaffinches and Goldfinches. Lots of young Blue (bovver boys!) and Great Tits and the odd immature Coal Tit with junior Robin and Blackbird (in the Blackbird's case mum is still required to do the feeding) clearing up their mess. The male Bullfinch doesn't look his usual smart self as his moult has started. Yesterday for the first time a female Bullfinch as well appeared but so far no juveniles. Looks like I need a trip to the agricultural supplier for some more feed!

Great stuff ff The guy who lives in Seaton South Devon near my in-laws who’s blog I follow has pronounced it is now autumn, with the arrival of an influx of waders on the local wetlands. A local birder here has reported swift moving south for last two days too I’m predicting a waxwing winter (err, again) |

Last weeks three Grey Wags including the one legged one were back again today. I think they're all juveniles but I can't get a good look at the eyestripes to be sure.

That's not a feeder, it an aviary! A couple of the Norfolk ones I follow are also saying that they're starting to get the winter returnees. Given today's weather I can understand it! |

Lol! And I didn't mention the Dunnocks, Woodpigeons and Collared Doves that have popped in at various times. 😉

ff, DT, thanks again for the pointers. No, no dippers yet, either, although I can practically smell them in certain places. I'm not really going about things the right way to see many birds (I have been with others and it hasn't been a priority), but I'm hoping I'll spot some good'uns in the next day or two. My normal trick of going out without my binoculars hasn't worked yet either - that generally ensures lots of rarities which I then only get distant glimpses of :). Absolutely love the area, though - I'll be back.
