The dog is doing a great Mutley impression - every time we say pigeon he charges out to chase it away from my brassicas :)

Greenfinch doing a lot of wheezy phwee-ooos without the usual chirpy bits in between

- it gets quite irritating after a while!

😂 Rosehip if your dog fancies a holiday and chasing some different pigeons he's welcome here anytime (in truth as a Springer he's very welcome even if he doesn't chase the pigeons!)

I don't fancy the pigeons' chances! , for an old boy with a dodgy knee, he's getting quite sprightly!

[Husband doesn't believe me that pigeon breasts make a lovely pie ( it's the something my grandparents, as smallholders, cooked for me) maybe Ralph will help me prove my point ;) ]

While on my run a single Swift, my first Willow Warbler singing since my first in April, Cetti's and Reed -- must be nesting in the reeds where they've been holding territories for weeks. Lesser Whitethroat singing. Mute Swan and six cygnets.

Green woodie, raven and a dunlin on yesterday's run, as well as all the usual mippits and skylarks. Nothing much today, but not surprised with that wind!

There have been little stint, ringed plover and ruff on Whiteholme res (a few miles away) this week, so may take a trip out as soon as the weather improves. We were also told where Shorties are the other day...

What UK species are missing from the lists of the more experienced birders on here, which you would most like to see? (I put it like that because if you're just starting out, the list will be long). Off the top of my head, I would say long-eared owl tops the list. Never seen one, although I've heard their young (while listening to nightingales on a reserve on the Essex coast). Never seen a dotterel nor, as far as I know, a whimbrel. I think I've seen firecrests but never been 100% sure they weren't goldcrests. Never seen a cirl bunting (but I know where to go). Wryneck is also missing from the list. There are miscellaneous ducks and geese, too, but I'm not so bothered about them (I know, duckist).

I should also add little stint, because it was flanker's mention of this which got me musing on the subject. (Although I do have a vague recollection of seeing one, but may be misremembering).
