[Aside: do the cat deterrents work? Like them, but we've got a local moggy who has decided our raised beds have been built for his personal use]

Still no house martins here. 100s of baby lambs though :)

[Flanker - our cat deterents work only to the extent that you are quick enough to throw them at the cat you wish to deter]

Our local OC reported 1st swift on 9th April, but I've not seen any, yet.

We have two cat deterrents, do you want to dog sit them?

Sand Martins on Saturday, house Martin yesterday. Eagerly awaiting swallow and swifts.
My first ever swallow was on St Patrick's day about 10 years ago. As there haven't been parties for Paddy's day this year they have obviously decided to wait a month

Our cat detergents half work, but it seems to depend on the cat. Some seem more affected than others.

I've captured video footage at around midnight of a cat waiting underneath the bird feeder and stalking the garden. Havent seen it happen again and usually only capture them round the front of the house.

Scared up a hare on my run this morning and think I saw my first Chiffchaff.

More goldfinches this morning, flying around in a gang and some coming down to the scrubby bit of neighbours front yard to peck at dandelions.

Lots of swallows (well, 5 or 6) round stables & horse fields the other day.
No martins seen yet

Will need to keep an eye out for bats - never thought to try & identify them, they zip about a bit too much. Will a bat sound detector thing identify them by different pitches ?

A simple heterodyne bat detector is a good start. You won't really be able to identify everything with one, but you will probably be able to separate pips, myotis, and long eared. Even people experienced with bat detectors can't always make definitive ids, despite what they claim. I struggle even with recordings to analyse.

We have breeding daubentons and pips in the roof.

I’ve noticed a great tit hanging around a quiet corner of our garden by the back of the house. He had a rubbish quiet one note song and I thought he’d be spending the spring on his own. This morning I saw him again and noticed a hole in a wall I’d never seen before. It appears he’ll be having a busier spring than I thought heart
