Fragile Do Not Bend
Saw a couple of Brimstone butterflies today, lovely bright almost neon yellow. I’ve not seen them around here before.

Roland update (sad)

Cat 1 Rat 0

Cat was very pleased with himself - rat delivered on the lounge carpet this morning.
Good news and better news : Dead, and intact (we often only get 1/2 the catch).

Roland (RIP) has taken a flight west (ie into the far reaches of the woods next door), without any chemical assistance.

Housemartins, few in a couple of places along the seafront and then a couple more inland near one of their nesting sites. Can't recall seeing them this early.

Also a few wheatear following our walk along the seafront

I saw a red kite really close to home this morning. I've only seen them twice within 10 miles in the last 10 years.

Hope the gamekeepers haven't seen him.

I'm increasingly baffled by the behaviour of my nesting (?) bluetit, that has continued to expend an awful lot of energy, and create an awful lot of noise, tap-tap-tapping away inside the nestbox. I have just been watching it pecking away all around the entrance hole, creating a pale border of cleaned wood. It can't be trying to enlarge the hole, I would think, as it can clearly get in and out without a problem. Really don't know what it's up to. I think it's a bit OCD.

I would guess that it doesn't think the entrance hole is quite big enough for a fast entry and exit.

If it is still laying, it will have time on it's hands. Or wings.

jacdaw, it certainly seems to be pretty quick in and out. Maybe its partner has an obesity problem, though?

Minnie Mad
I saw a nuthatch this morning, scurrying around in a tree, and also a deer. I don't know what type (I don't really know my deers!) but it wasn't very big and had a very white tail. It didn't have any spots that I could see.

Minnie - where are you (roughly).
Very probably a roe deer - unless very small.

White-bottomed deer round here tend to be roe deer.
