Red Squirrel
At city park lake:

Mandarin duck (male) - at close quarters. Beeeeooootiful.
Little grebe/dabchick - doing the diving down and trilling thing.

Lots of birds generally enjoying the lessened noise, pollution and people inc ducks, geese, drumming woodpeckers, blue tits, coal tits, coots, moorhens, blackbirds.

I haven't heard a dabchick for ages. I love that call.

Four chiffchaff and one dipper this afternoon. One of the warblers was ‘broken’ and was doing chaffs only :-( No blackcap yet but think we will have over weekend

Bar tailed godwit, curlew and a mystery third wader in the harbour tonight.

Similar in size to the godwit, but very pale grey and a white undercarriage iirc. Absolutely razor straight long bill. Any ideas?

Good call DT, colourings definitely, but according to the Rspb, are quite a bit smaller than the godwit. I seem to recall this being larger. The greenshank is only slighter bigger than the redshank according to them. But, I may have remembered it wrong.

Hmmm, I do love a good mystery, have to keep my eyes peeled and see if I can double check its size if I see it again. Never spotted a greenshank, so it'd be great if it was.

Willow Warblers at last! As expected, cloud cover would have "downed" some migrants last night. Two Willow Warblers at two locations along my running route were singing well-- as we're plenty of Blackcaps, Chiffchaffs etc.
