Last spring was rubbish for chiffs here too. There must have been five times more blackcap than chiffchaff locally and willow warbler were like dodos

Still no blackcap for me locally, which has surprised me. But then I remember it's still only March 22 - it's just that the chiffchaffs started up much earlier this year than normal.

DT, but don't you see wood warblers at Strid in the summer? That kind of makes up for being under-chiffed now, I would say.

We moved two years ago from Addingham in Wharfedale to close to Haworth. The Strid Woods walk, which is one of the very best birding walks in the Dales, if nor northern England was a few miles from us and yes that area is a stronghold for wood warbler (plus pied fly and redstart). The birding here is not as good as where we used to live generally

Ah, OK, I'd forgotten that was from before your move. Can't see why on earth anyone would want to move FROM Wharfedale, but I'm sure you had your reasons!

And at the moment Wharfedale is probably full of virus-ridden tourists taking the chance to have an extra holiday
