Derby Tup Sep 2018 9:07pm, 4 Sep 2018 26,801 posts	0 Derby Tup I saw a rakish looking raptor today for maybe 2 or 3 seconds. Not right for kestrel or peregrine plus too big for merlin and wrong territory). I wonder if it was a hobby? For a second I thought term or even parakeet the wings were that slim

They pass through here during migration fairly often and take trout but they don't hang around very long (though mine is the 3rd or 4th sighting of one this week and it is being suggested that one is resting up locally) so it really is a case of being in the right place at the right time.

J2R Sep 2018 7:45pm, 8 Sep 2018 1,357 posts	0 J2R Chiffchaffs singing the last couple of days in my local patch. Don't recall hearing them for a few weeks. Do they start up again in autumn? Also, lots of house martins, gorging themselves ready for their big trip (presumably not too far off now).
