Hi ,
It looks like you're using an ad blocker.

The revenue generated from the adverts on the site is a critical part of our funding - and it's because of these ads that I can offer the site for free. But using the site for free AND blocking the ads doesn't feel like a great thing to do, which is why this box is so large and inconvenient. Some sites will completely block your access, but I'm not doing that - I'm appealing to your good nature instead. Did you know that you can allow ads for specific sites, whilst still blocking them on others?

Thanks,
Ian Williams aka Fetch

Watched 6 Bee-eaters catching insects, making their lovely bubbly calls today. So am i in a) Spain b) Egypt c) Nottinghamshire?

Yes, (c) is the correct answer, the first in the county for 41 years since the last hot summer of 76. There are thought to be 7 or 8 of them, and if you want to see them (hopefully, they have been here about a week and looking at nesting holes near the Sand Martins) then they are setting up a car park tomorrow at the Cemex Quarry LE12 5QN, details on Notts Birders website nottsbirders.net
I tried to take a photo through my telescope, see below, but there are some proper pictures on the website above.

Wonderful, Chrisity, bee-eaters in England! I remember the first time I saw them, some years ago in Sicily, I was beside myself with excitement. They're one of those really special species.

:). They're EU bee-eaters, DT, don't forget! Also, apparently British sand martins can't get a nest hole now because the EU bee-eaters have been put at the top of the waiting list.

They need to rebrand as Beef Eaters. British and good for the U.K. meat industry.
