You've got me playing with maps now :)

Looks like a gate and a definite track through the field by the 257 spot height that leads to the marked ridge path up to Ladyside, then Hopegill & Grisedale, from where there's a marked path down Hobcarton End, pick up plantation tracks and then the RoW back to the road at Blaze Beck.

Looks like a nice route - might have to nip up and have a shot at it :)

It's some years ago but I have memories of doing an ad-hoc race up Grisedale Pike during a training weekend that went up the path from Hobcarton End and descended down the NE ridge. I think we parked up at the main Whinlatter car park (or close to it). I can't remember how we got out of the forest on to Hobcarton End but it must of been fairly straight forward. Descending I think we picked up the fire break that drops into Sanderson Gill and the forest tracks. It was orienteers so it might not have been all "paths" but equally to run it as a race the access to and from the forest must have been fairly easy. Seem to remember the descent being rather fun at speed. :-)

Not sure how good this image is as I've only got my phone, but here's the Ladyside Pike ridge from Broom Fell today.

Oh really?

Coledale Horseshoe fell race this weekend. Could be interesting in a poo-your-pants kind of a way :-)
