Yellow rain warning for tomorrow. Looks like another perfectly timed trip up here. Good job I packed my climbing stuff.

Busy weekend doing some random routes in heavy rain. I never started walking in the Lakes thinking about ticking things off so I have lots to random wainwrights dotted around that make for interesting routes. So yesterday was the Fairfield horseshoe with an exention a Dodd and Steel thing. I think a few folk learned by cotton joggers are not the vest choice yesterday. NE - up me to 138 please |

Very. Also Steep. Couldn’t say how narrow though.

Just noticed that the road around the back of Thirlmere is now open again, but not the road across the dam. bbc.co.uk |

There are two ends to the Walna Scar track Ally. [ I hope you're not thinking that Walna Scar is itself a driveable road? It's not - it's very rocky and unpassable to traffic ]. At the eastern end, the road from Coniston up to the car parking area at the base of the path up the Old Man is a normal single lane, with places for passing. It's only a 5 minutes drive out of Coniston. The first bit is steep but not too bad for a camper. Beyond the car park area, it turns to rocks and gravel. The western end is to the south of Seathwaite Tarn. That's accessible from the Duddon Valley / Dunnerdale. Either via Duddon Bridge, then a few miles north up the Duddon Valley. The last mile or so is single lane, but again with passing places. The other end of Duddon Valley is the valley between Hardknott Pass and Wrynose Pass - both offering a 1 in 3 gradient on narrow twisty ascents & descents, which are scary to the uninitiated, and neither suitable for campers bigger than a VW. |
