Hi ,
It looks like you're using an ad blocker.

The revenue generated from the adverts on the site is a critical part of our funding - and it's because of these ads that I can offer the site for free. But using the site for free AND blocking the ads doesn't feel like a great thing to do, which is why this box is so large and inconvenient. Some sites will completely block your access, but I'm not doing that - I'm appealing to your good nature instead. Did you know that you can allow ads for specific sites, whilst still blocking them on others?

Thanks,
Ian Williams aka Fetch
or for an ad-free Fetcheveryone experience!

If I may suggest it, if you are up that way a detour to Bell Crags is worth the effort. The most imposing of the summits in that area, why Wainwright didn't include it is a mystery. His protégé Mark Richards didn't make the same mistake though.

2 good days in the Lakes for me. Drove over from Leeds with a thick head (50th party) on Monday morning and enjoyed the Coledale Horseshoe with a few extras. Lovely early dinner at the Coledale Inn on the way back down. Then the Gables from Seathwaite yesterday. Spoiled a bit by my inability to find a decent route back down from Grey Knotts to Seathwaite but lovely all the same.

Feet a little bit beaten up by the hard, dry ground. I am amazed at how dry it is already. Rivers barely running, foxgloves curling up and dying mid flowering and even the bracken already struggling in places.

Cuckoos everywhere though, I've heard so many this year :-) .

Looking forward to getting back later in the summer when I'm sure it'll be raining again!

We’ve just parked up in the lay-by in Troutbeck, by the river. The van parked next to us is very likely to belong to Sabrina Verjee looking at the name of the Vets Practice on the side.

Before that I bumped into Ben Abdelnoor when we were getting coffee and cake.

Rattle Gill cakes were never the same after he left.
