Thanks. That's how I see it, too. She's just selfish.

We've got to the 'only one thing per day' stage too. MiL can't handle anything out of the ordinary. She also has no foresight about what might be needed.

We just had a call from the carer: MiL is running out of incontinence mats for FiL.

Okay, we can bring some on Friday.

Er, no. They only have two left.

Great. Best we can do today is an Amazon order arriving tomorrow.

And yet, MiL has a cupboard with 25 packets of biscuits and will want more ordering on Wednesday, the shopping day.

Grandma is 85 this year and still living alone fairly comfortably. My mum (not her daughter) and 2 of her 3 children (not my dad) are pretty good at dealing with the stuff she can't, but that's not that much. She has relented to getting a gardener (mostly for the lawn and significant pruning). She has not bothered with any technology. She can deal with more than one thing in a day, but tends to schedule a quiet day afterwards to recuperate.

My F-i-L (age 92) is a shocker for doing several things in a day, then complaining he's really tired and feeling sorry for himself for a couple of days. Rinse and repeat!

TBH, the "one thing a day" is sometimes all I can deal with too!

Hugs to those who need them and congratulations to thos who have parents who are still managing themselves admirably. I hope to be the latter (eventually), but it’s not really in my gift to say that’s how it will turn out ((()))

I’m monitoring my ma’s bank account. At no point has she any idea how much money she has. It’s like watching a child playing shops.

Has been like that for 50 years. One minute you’d be out for something to eat, next minute electricity cut off 😂

About This Thread

I thought I'd start a thread, as lots of us have elderly folks that we worry about/care for.

Also: After someone dies, if their home insurance was only in their name, sadly the cover becomes void. But if the policy was in joint names, it will still cover the surviving policyholder (though the names on the policy will need to be updated).

Pension Credit. The rules are a bit complex but if your elderly relative has some sort of disability (in this case dementia/Alzheimer's) and go into a home, they may be able to claim pension credit. So if carers allowance stops, it seems pension credit can start. It can also be backdated.
