Hi ,
It looks like you're using an ad blocker.

The revenue generated from the adverts on the site is a critical part of our funding - and it's because of these ads that I can offer the site for free. But using the site for free AND blocking the ads doesn't feel like a great thing to do, which is why this box is so large and inconvenient. Some sites will completely block your access, but I'm not doing that - I'm appealing to your good nature instead. Did you know that you can allow ads for specific sites, whilst still blocking them on others?

Thanks,
Ian Williams aka Fetch

Today i managed to get the barcode printed out at the library, HOWEVER

the image wouldn't show on the email i sent to the library even after we right clicked on it as the text asked us to. We managed to save the image onto the library computer but when we wanted to print it, the image has no size limit so was taking up half an A4 page. We managed to get it down in size to what they called wallet size, however this still means the barcode itself is about as long as a credit card.

I think assuming everyone can print out these images has failed in this case. I have no intention of buying a Printer that would get used maybe once a year.
i plan on being at Crammond on Saturday morning, but i will be pretty annoyed if the barcode won't work due to being the wrong size.

You need a backup way of entering poeple rather than just the barcode.

I would rather pay to have the proper type of barcode sent to me than buy a printer. Maybe a one off fee for a barcode card would be a good idea.

The instructions state "the best way to print it is by printing this page directly from your browser" - select file and print the webpage rather than printing the image itself. But take what you have to parkrun as, certainly in Glasgow, any barcodes that do not scan will be manually recorded, where no barcode = no result.

WoldDancer, thanks for trying - we'll give it a go with what you have. If it doesn't work - then I'll be there, and on registration; I'll make sure you get a time down. We're sticking with the old system this week, so we can enter barcode numbers. But we are only giving times to people with barcodes (whether they scan or not). If we do struggle to scan your barcode this week, you may need to look at trying a reprint (for future events). As EyeSpy21 says, the best way to print it, is to print the whole webpage - and just cut out the barcode.

I think you have a valid point, some people may have difficulty trying to print out their barcode. All we can do is pass on the information to the main people at parkrun. I think there may be implications if they started charging for printing of barcodes, simply because it's a free event with no money exchanging hands at all. But it's a good suggestion, and I may be wrong.

Getting annoyed on Saturday won't help though - everyone there on Saturday, including myself, are just unpaid volunteers. All of the brains behind all of the systems (including the barcodes, website etc) is all based down south. The main way to get in touch with them is via email. I'll be happy to pass your comments on to the appropriate people, if you like? Alternatively, you can drop us an email at edinburghparkrun@googlemail.com, and I can forward your message on. Or there may be another email on the main parkrun site.

See you on Saturday,

Craig :)

Actually, you know what WolfDancer - if you fmail me your Full name, and barcode number. I'll print it for you, for Saturday.

On this page, got to the top ^ (look at the right hand side). You should see a section with links going to inbox, and compose. If you compose a new message to me, using "-craig-" in the send-to box.

Just ask anyone in a bright yellow top for me on Saturday.

Let me know if you have any trouble,
Craig.

Remember - It's a double parkrun weekend at Edinburgh on 24 & 25 April 2010. Saturday is the normal 5k and Sunday hosts the re-scheduled Easter Sunday 10k. Both events start at 09:30am - Remember, Edinburgh is now barcode only
