Hi ,
It looks like you're using an ad blocker.

The revenue generated from the adverts on the site is a critical part of our funding - and it's because of these ads that I can offer the site for free. But using the site for free AND blocking the ads doesn't feel like a great thing to do, which is why this box is so large and inconvenient. Some sites will completely block your access, but I'm not doing that - I'm appealing to your good nature instead. Did you know that you can allow ads for specific sites, whilst still blocking them on others?

Thanks,

I was with him until he started talking about carbohydrates being bad.

I raised an eyebrow at the surmise that 'orthotics kill grannies'.

Most carbohydrates are bad, especially refined carbs.

My orthotics helped me to be able to run, which helped me to become healthy and develop muscles and balance and stuff. I liked that article about carbohydrates which was very sensible at the end - most people can eat wholegrain stuff and be and stay healthy. Some people react badly - as some people do to lettuce or apples or mushrooms - and refined carbs cause your sugar/insulin levels to shoot up and down which has long term effects.

I had custom made orthotics, they are like a hard white resin which were made from a mould of my feet and sent to Canada. I found them very helpful and also meant I didn't need to worry much about the shoes.

It depends what's wrong. I use them at work, for long walks and for running.
They helped get rid of knee pain, limited blisters on long walks even in very wet conditions

No more shin splints.
Well worth the money. However it is very important to go to a place you trust.

I use The Rugby foot place. Mr Borough deals mainly with walkers. He did one sort hard plastic for walking work and a softer type for running

They will help mask the issues and get you running, but it wasn't a long term fix for me. I could never get more than 6-12 months of consistent training in over 7 years without some issue. Once I chucked them in the bin (no going back) I bought some new runners, changed my form (lean forward, quick turn over) I haven't had a single injury in 3 years. Fix the root cause and be patient I'd say.

I have high arches that collapse then I walk/run. I have hypermobility syndrome and this has caused my knees to turn in and painful hips.

I was prescribed orthotics as since I started running I have been getting ankle pain. Anyway they have been amazing. My knees and hips are also improving! !
