What do you think you'll do as a longest run this time SM6 ?
I haven't thought too much about training yet though plan to do Lairig Ghru again which is 27 and 5 or 6 weeks before.

If i was just training for Devil, I'd probably settle for a few runs in the region of 25-30 miles. But I've Glenmore 24 a month later, so I'll possibly go over 40 a couple of times before Devil.

It's a fab route Gus, best part of WHW. Each section is great and perfect length for a good hard run. I love Rannoch Moor, up the Devil and down in to KLL is brill, and the climb up on then along the Lairig Mor is a brill challenge. My fave is probably those last miles. The only bit I'm less keen on is the 3 miles down the fire road and last mile along the tarmac. But that can't be helped! How else are you supposed to get home?! I'd love to try it again one day. Maybe for my 10th anniversary ultra in 2020?! G

:-)G - I knew you ran it back in 2010, and as you always do great detailed blogs, I went off and read your blog. Wow, hadn't realised you'd been injured most of the year and had done it off hardly any training, that was a great effort !! Good news if you decide to do it again is you no longer have the last mile along the tarmac, Johnny has changed the finish, and from Braveheart carpark you stay on paths/trails, climb a hill !!!!, and finish in the park beside the leisure centre

Sounds like a great end to the route Gus. And Johnny D does do a great red carpet and flags finish line!
Yeah, I was coming off back of 6 months out with pelvis injury but had booked Devil ages before, so wanted still to do it. Started with a group of 10 ladies at the back taking photos and having a chat, finished the race crossing the line hand in hand with santababy, so couldn't really have asked for more. (Not that I could keep up with her in an ultra now - she's super speedy!)
I think my longest long run was 15 miles! So you shouldn't have any problem Gus. Depends how hard you want to race it, of course, as with any other race. But if you're happy with 8-10 hours you can probably do it today, with no extra training (given you do pretty big training volume, and good quality). Usual caveats of don't *over* train, obv. You'll be off the back of marathon and longer races. I'd say "less is more" mate. Get to the start line rested, fuel up, start steady and finish strong. You'll smash it! G

I hated that finish! Going up the hill with mashed quads then coming back down again was agony!

Lol, someone needs to up the sidebar (it won't be Sophster, don't think she's around any more?) as support / backup crew are no longer required. It's drop bags, like the Fling. G

Devil conquered today, had a decent run, no issues at any point, sore quads at end but to be expected, and that final new climb at the finish is hellish and must add about 5 mins onto the old route around the road.
Weather was kind - cloudy, drizzle at a few points, and at no point was it warm. Very, very happy with a 7:40

Well done Gus.
I DNF'd @ KLL. Rolled my dodgy ankle along the Rannoch Moor, nothing too serious but left me struggling to walk up the Devils Staircase, and couldn't face the climb out of KLL.
