It was a choice of Root or Woakes to open according to TMS. I'd have gone for Woakes purely because having a talisman further down the order seemed saner than opening with the two guys India seem a bit scared of.

Innings defeat is 60 odd runs away, with 6 wickets left, 5 if hameed can't bat tomorrow.
Root is at the crease so there must remain a sliver of hope that we can get the Indian openers to strap their pads on for 20 minutes or so.
