Yep, really enjoyed that first test, encouraging in many ways. I remember when we'd go over there with the usual 3 seam 1 spinner attack and be completely unable to vary it.

Helped by the all rounders, but the 3-3 attack looks decent and really pleased for Raschid. We worked hard in long attritional phases then cashed in when we could. Might have won it if we'd have cleaned their first innings up a bit quicker instead of that last pair hanging about; I don't blame Cook for the declaration - Boycs was suggesting bat on as it would be better to wear their bowlers out with the next test 3 days away than give them a rest and wear ours out with no chance of winning....senile old f&*k....;-)

And as for Balance, big difference when you drop someone patently unsuited to test cricket and bring in someone who, even at 19, looks the package. Looked scarily young in post match interviews, and I still can't work out how he clubbed that six being so thin and callow looking. Marvelous, and the icing on the cake being Australia...:-)

Happy days. Looking forward to the next test....

I never understood why Ballance was recalled in the summer and his form then didn't warrant inclusion on the tours.

I think Ballance's recall was a nostalgic nod to the 90's, where an assembly line of hapless buffoons were rotated in and out of the side by seemingly random criteria....;-)

Pethaps they wanted to see how Hameed shaped up on tour. Most of the England set up and team might know very little about him seeing as they do not play county cricket.

Aussies 😊. What had happened to Smith? A bit of pressure. Kawaja is no great player yet he looks one of thier better bets now.

Remember when we used to make lame jokes about how young Joe Root looked?

How times change.

Swann's impression of Root is still funny though.

Nowadays with all the helmets and the lack of terrestrial coverage, i haven't the foggiest what any players look and sound like. For all i know Orville the duck did a cracking impersonation of Root.

Just read an article on Australia's batting catastrophe's at the moment, and noted that their batting coach is one G. Hick.

WTAF.

Perhaps something for Gary Balance to work towards, now his test playing career is over :-)

*remembers Trent Bridge 2015...smiles*
