Woakes is ok. Think he is a confidence player - being in and out of the team will not do confidence any favours.

This England team (well all 3 versions of it) are a work in progress. Expect some good wins followed by inexplicable losses. They are on the up and it will improve.

I generally agree fozzy, except these losses weren't inexplicable. They were down to poor judgement and failure in basic skills. That shouldn't happen at this level, especially the poor judgement from established players like Morgan, Stokes, etc.

the worst thing was banging on about a whitewash....they asked for it. If there is one thing any professional team doesn't like is another, especially an English one, shooting their mouths off.

Agreed, bad feeling as soon as we started banging on about 5-0.

Stupid, it was obvious when SA chased our 400 pretty well (albeit we got home with D/L) they were no patsies. Only English teams (cricket, rugby, football) can lurch from utter incompetence to suicidal arrogance in about 3 games....

There is definitely something to be learnt in"tournament play" by not just english teams, but welsh, irish and even the scots...they all seem to do half a job and pat themsleeves on the back....

Agree with WS. Very rarely have I seen a British team play at their best for an entire match. Be it cricket, football or rugby. They seem to see half a job done and sit back and try to coast it.

After our last 3 tournos at World Cup level: rugby, football and ODI cricket 'half a job' would be a fucking great improvement....

Our issue is we play the wrong game. Certainly for football and rugby. Football we love 'high tempo, pressing, 'passion' getting stuck in, pace pace pace, getting down the flanks. Good teams just knock the ball around until we start slowing up, then kill us off.

Hence we can knock over the patsies on qualifying, then come the good teams (combined with hotter weather) in tournos it's a disaster - whether we try and carry on the high tempo 'English' game, or try some half arsed naïve attempt to get players to play an alien slower game.

Similar in rugby: all about being big and strong in set piece and bashing into people when you have the ball. Hope is you can 'wear the other team down' and get a couple of easy tries. Top Southern Ham sides can deal with this tactic all day long.

Can't believe England lost yesterday. Much do better tomorrow.
