openers fail yet again, Root and Stokes save the day yet again. It's all getting a bit predictable.

Talking of the 81 Ashes tests, i was in a small town in North Ontario (for Neil Young fans) and the cricket scores were not in any of the papers apart from the Guardian weekly which came out every Saturday. My only knowledge of what was happening was when i saw the weekly paper in the library on the Monday, and it had Saturdays close of play. So it was a week later when i could find the result. So the Headingley test was Australia 401 England 174 and 6 -1 in the paper. Then next week i found out that we had won. Similar for Edgbaston where Australia were chasing 151 to win (the start of their innings wasn't in the paper) one week and 121 all out the next. It was tough being a sport fan there, i had to travel 300 miles to see Man City on the telly in the cup final as it wasn't being shown where i was, and it went to a reply. PS Villa was lucky, he miscontrolled it, otherwise he wouldn't have scored in the replay. |

Wouldn't say that SA were batting that badly either; none of the wickets have been particularly bad shots. Just so many unplayable deliveries from Stokes & Broad. SA have had some kind of batting collapse at some point in most of their recent tests. |
